Now who ever thought that vanilla ice cream was a need for the world to enjoy? Well, let's go back to the beginning of the 19th Century with the invention of the ice cream freezer. In 1843, Nancy Johnson an American housewife, was a crucial development her hand-cranked ice cream machine. It allowed ice cream to be made more easily at home and started modern ice cream machines. Before this, making ice cream required considerable effort and was typically reserved for the wealthy.
Then in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, advances in refrigeration and the widespread availability of ice allowed ice cream to be produced and sold commercially. Jacob Fussell, a dairyman in the U.S., is often credited with being the first to create a successful commercial ice cream business in the 1850s.
In the 20th century, companies like Häagen-Dazs (founded in 1961) and Ben & Jerry's (founded in 1978) brought ice cream to the mass market, creating iconic brands that popularized ice cream flavors worldwide.
