Recipe from New York! This easy to make Banana Cream Pie Recipe is creamy with sweet bananas sliced in the middle and let’s not forget the homemade whip cream on top. So delicious, I could finish the whole pie myself.
This recipe was given to me by my mother-in-law who loved pie but not as much as her husband. Every time we went to Upstate New York, we always stopped by Grandma’s Restaurant to buy a pie to bring over.
But nothing came close to her Banana Cream Pie Recipe that my mother-in-law made. It was creamy, not over sweet but the perfect bite every time. Now let's just say my husband loves a pie just as much as his parents.
A Little About Upstate New York
Ulster County, New York has a population 177,573. When driving up these whiny roads you feel like you are in the middle of no where. The trees are beautiful and that is all you will see until you get to the beginning of Ashokan Reservoir and then the skies and mountains open up all around you. It is beautiful with nothing but mother nature in full bloom.
Some of the highlighted areas that I loved while traveling to see my mother-in-law. The best time that I loved to visit were Fall and Spring when everything is in full color.
- Woodstock Film Festival - Woodstock, New York
The Woodstock Film Festival is in October so plan your trip around this time so you can bump into some movie stars. - NYS Sheep & Wool Festival - Rhinebeck, New York
This was a big treat for me because I have never been to such a festival for the knitters of the world. Yarn of all colors and size fill the barns so you can feel and buy. - The Perfect Blend Yarn & Tea Shop - Saugerties, New York
Now that we are aware of the Sheep & Wool Festival make sure to stop in The Perfect Blend Yarn & Tea Shop for couple of hour and get your question and answers on your knitting projects.
Now let’s get on with the pie and let me share with you how easy it is to make this pie that you won’t want to buy another Banana Cream Pie Recipe.

1. Grease the pan and unroll the dough into the pie pan without stretching. Press into the pie pan. With a fork, pierce the pie dough on top.
2. Add a round of parchment paper and pour the bean weights into the pie shell. This will keep your pie crust propped up during baking. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.
3. In a 4 quart pan put 3 cups of milk and 1 cup of sugar and ¼ cup of butter. Bring to a rolling boil.
4. Dilute cornstarch with 1 cup of milk, then add the egg yolks, vanilla and salt and mix.
5. Dilute cornstarch with 1 cup of milk, then add the egg yolks, vanilla and salt and mix.
6. Take 1 cup of the warm milk and mix by pouring the warm milk into the egg mixture. This helps to mix the egg mixture and not to cook the eggs. Pour into the pot until it thickens into a thick custard while mixing constantly.
7. Once the pie has cooled off, slice the bananas and place them at the bottom of the pie shell.
8. Once the custard has cooled off a little then pour the custard on top of the bananas. Place in the refrigerator and let it settle for about 4 hours or overnight.
9. Whip up the whip cream until it peaks and spoon the whip cream on top of the pie.
10. Place the sliced bananas on top and the pie is ready. Enjoy!
