Recipe from Florida! Healthy Green Smoothies for the New Year is full of goodness. Made with plants and no artificial powder that pretends to be good for you. Start the New Year right by treating your body with NO Processed Food NO Sugar and follow me on my 30-day challenge.
This is my favorite time of the year with all things wiped and cleaned to start a new year for new beginnings. Who doesn't love new possibilities where no limits can be imagined a greater year than the last.
This Green Smoothie comes from a grocery/takeout called the Sugar Apple Organic Restaurant, Cafe & Market in Key West Florida. We ate there every day for lunch and it was the best-plantbased food on the island.
The owner was great and gave me some great tips on making plant-based foods that people will love. I still use his product recommendations and tips but most of all I make the Green Smoothie to this day. The trick, like he said, is less is more so you can taste the goodness of vegetables.
Let’s get started, I usually have this around 11:00 am when I start my 30 day cleanse so I can restart my engine.
What Ingredients For The Recipe?
- Spinach
- Apple
- Coconut Water
- Date
- Ice cubes
How I Make the Healthy Green Smoothie
- Place the spinach, chopped apples, dates, ice cubes and coconut water in a blender.
- Pulse blender a couple of times to get it started and then blend until creamy looking, about 5 minutes.
- Pour into 2 glass with a straw. Enjoy!
Kale VS Spinach
Kale can be added instead but I don’t like the taste of kale in a smoothie and this is what the Sugar Apple Cafe taught me. By adding spinach, it is less bitter. I think that is why a lot of people don’t like Green Smoothies and all it takes is to switch out to spinach most of the time. When you look at their nutritional makeup, kale has more calcium, vitamin K, and twice as much vitamin C as spinach, which is why kale is preferred at health stores. But like I say, “if they don’t like it people will not try.” so I prefer spinach and today my husband loves his Green Smoothie.
Equipment
I wish I could say that any blender will do and that it won’t make a difference but that would not be true. I used to think like that until I got a Vitamix and my only comment was WOW! Yes that is the only one I recommend and believe me I have had them all it seems and some not so cheek. So if you like a creamy, no particles left and smooth taste, the Vitamix is hands down the best.
Storage
So here is the thing with storing a smoothie: it loses something in taste. The longest I store my smoothie of any kind is 2 to 3 hours in a glass jar with a lid.
Top Tip
One thing I have learned on my journey of food is quality over quantity matters. Better food makes you eat less, more nutritious and easier to find at an affordable price.
