Robert E Lee Boyhood Home in Old Town Alexandria is part of our neighborhood. So I decided to sneak a tour in to see a little piece of history. To my surprise you can rent it out for weddings or events and be part of American History!
Now many of us have heard of Robert E. Lee or remember American History class in High School. Boring!!! If we could only have had a tour instead, I think most children would prefer the tour and see how this man lived in a neighborhood with his family living around him.

He would go play outside and fishing down the street. The Robert E. Lee relatives home that we toured is relativity the same size as modern homes and it has a yard to play around, or as they did back in the day, have afternoon tea in the gardens.
What is unusual about this home of it's time is that there is an addition to this house that housed all of the servants under one roof. Something that was not common. They had there own rooms and bathed indoors. Along with fireplaces to stay warm. Most servants of this time were slaves with outside quarters or were poor and paid very little but lived outside the home. This part alone tells you a lot about this man's family and how they saw all people of any class to be treated equal.
Robert E Lee Boyhood Home in Old Town Alexandria still stands today with artifacts of it's time. As we traveled threw the house, I could not help but noticed how hot it was. Until the tour guide pointed on to the wall so we could see the insulation of it's time. Let's just say, I would not want to live during this time period in the summer!
As me and Jeff left the tour and headed out for a little Gelato, we both agreed how much we love living here with all the history right outside your door.
