Traveling with Kids to Washington DC

Published: Sep 15, 2016 · Modified: Jan 27, 2019 by Lizzy

Traveling with Kids to Washington DC on a 3 day vacation. My sister came for a quick visit and brought the family with her to see Auntie Liz.

First off, let it be known that with kids the noise level increases to a new high where adult brains need to shut off to be ok. I was so excited to see them and could not wait to take them on King Street for a personal Historical Tour from ME, Auntie Liz!

So we hurry to eat before someone may feel like they are deprived and being tortured. Yet, they had no problems walking for ice cream and I think they would of walked miles for one lick of Peanut Butter Gelato. We licked off our last scoop of ice cream and finished our night by riding the trolley back.

The adventures began the next day with a train ride to Washington DC Monuments and more walking to be done with the family. I think I could of stayed on the train ride all day because kids seem to love the sound and are aways so happy. Except for my wonderful nephew that is always testing everyone now that he has proclaimed, "I'm a teenager and we act like this." My sister has the patiences of a saint.

As we walked around with the kids dying of thirst and stopping at every bathrooms you cannot get far. I would recommend to set your sight on maybe 3 and call it a day. The age of 3, 4 and 13 do not have the walking ability for to long. Not to mention the trip to the bathrooms are at least ½ hour a piece and you will need to stop. As we headed back on the train, they were all sticky from sweating in the 90 degrees and it was time for ice cream again! This was my idea and of course everyone had one from the food trucks out front of the monuments.

So at the end, I managed to tire out the whole family and they were packed ready to go after the 3 day trip. I hope they come back soon and bring better shoes to walk because living in this town you have to walk. - Love Auntie Liz!
