Diabetes runs in my family and also for Jeff. As we get older our bodies seem to not process everything as when we were young. It’s a new world in food distributors and how they process our foods that we eat. And let me tell you it has not been for the better. We all hope when we are walking into the grocery store we're paying for good quality food; however the growing trend of diabetes is on the rise.

The amount of chemicals put into our food products is disturbing to say the least. You have to ask yourself. "why is that we have to pay more for the organic chicken or the grass-fed beef?" This should be a given that companies shouldn’t be putting chemicals in our products we consume.
Diabetes Runs in My Family
To be quite honest I don’t think most doctors know exactly what they are speaking about any longer due to the food source being so chemically enhanced and effecting so many of us. As we all know they say their just “practicing medicine” hence the word practice. What I can share with you is the journey of a family member that was experiencing extreme fatigue, bloated stomach, blurred vision, hunger and thirsty all the time. The doctor never caught these signs. The blood work was still high but not high enough. Those are signs of diabetes and for some people what the range is can be different. So he did not fall into the chart until the numbers jump to 300!
What causes type 2 diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes—the most common form of diabetes—is caused by several factors, including lifestyle factors and genes.
Overweight, obesity, and physical inactivity
You are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if you are not physically active and are overweight or obese. Extra weight sometimes causes insulin resistance and is common in people with type 2 diabetes. The location of body fat also makes a difference. Extra belly fat is linked to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and heart and blood vessel disease. To see if your weight puts you at risk for type 2 diabetes, check out these Body Mass Index (BMI) charts.
Insulin resistance
Type 2 diabetes usually begins with insulin resistance, a condition in which muscle, liver, and fat cells do not use insulin well.
Medicines
Certain medicines can harm beta cells or disrupt the way insulin works.
- niacin, a type of vitamin B3
- certain types of diuretics, also called water pills
- anti-seizure drugs
- psychiatric drugs
- drugs to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
- pentamidine, a drug used to treat a type of pneumonia
- glucocorticoids—medicines used to treat inflammatory illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, lupus, and ulcerative colitis
- anti-rejection medicines, used to help stop the body from rejecting a transplanted organ
As you can see one thing goes into another and there are so many factors that can contribute to your health. I’m not a doctor nor do I claim to practice medicine, however I have had to take a step back and think about what we are eating because we have so many people in our families with diabetes..
