Strawberry Ice Cream from Florida

Published: Aug 14, 2026 by Lizzy

Homemade strawberry ice cream made with fresh strawberry flavor from Florida farms. The beauty of the strawberry field and the Strawberry Festival every year is the reason for this ice cream creation.

Jump to Recipe

I included two of my favorite combinations of fresh strawberries and the Läderach strawberry chocolate.

Unlike many store-bought versions, I use simple ingredients and real strawberries. If this is the first time making homemade ice cream or you've been creating churn ice cream recipes, it's easy to follow.

If you own a Cuisinart ice cream maker or another favorite machine, simply follow your manufacturer's instructions for churning. Now let's get started on making fresh strawberry ice cream!

You Gonna Love Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream

The secret to the most flavor is adding homemade strawberry jam. This creates a naturally sweet strawberry mixture packed with vibrant color and an intense strawberry flavor.

Cream Mix

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • dash of salt

Eggs

  • 4 egg yolks, room temperature
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup Moni strawberry flavor

Strawberry Mix

  • 1 cup strawberries, chopped bite
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons strawberry jam
  • ¼ cup white chocolate, chopped

Equipment You'll Need

  • Cuisinart ice cream maker or Ice cream machine
  • Food processor or high-powered blender
  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Large bowl
  • Clean bowl
  • Ice cream bowl
  • Freezer-safe airtight container
  • Plastic wrap
  • Ice cream scoop

Prepare creamy ice cream base

  • Begin by gently heating the milk and cream over medium heat in a large saucepan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together egg yolks, vanilla, salt, and sugar until pale.
  • Slowly temper the egg yolk with 1 cup of the warm milk mixture, pour a little at a time and mix, then return everything to the saucepan.
  • Cook over low heat until it thickens slightly. I try to be careful not to scramble the eggs. Once it starts to thicken, add the flavor you like and mix until blended.

Chilling & Churning

  • Pour the mixture into a glass container and place it in the fridge for 2 hours. Remove and pour into the ice cream machine.
  • Churn ice cream until it reaches a soft-serve consistency or the desired serving consistency that you like. Mine was about 35 minutes.

Toppings, Freezing & Serving

  • Now the ice cream is done and can be put into an airtight container, or the fruit and candy can be added at this time.
  • Smooth the top with a spatula with one layer, then add the toppings that you like or fruit between each layer of ice cream. I added chopped white chocolate and strawberries. Repeat the step until all the ice cream is done.
  • The ice cream is soft at this time, so freeze for at least 2 to 4 hours, depending on the container and freezer. When ready to serve, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes for the perfect scoop!

Tips:

  1. For a creamy texture, you can add extra egg yolks to the base to make custard-style ice cream, though it will require a bit more cooking and cooling.
  2. Add syrup or jam for a different flavor to the ice cream base, but I always start with vanilla ice cream.
  3. You can also experiment by adding mix-ins like chocolate chips, crushed cookies, or fruit during the last few minutes of churning if you want to customize your ice cream.

Variations

Try replacing strawberries with:

  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries
  • Raspberries
  • Peaches
  • Mangoes

These different fruits work beautifully with this same custard base.

Storage

Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks. To minimize ice crystals, always keep the container tightly sealed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this without an ice cream machine?
Yes. Freeze the mixture and stir every 30–45 minutes for several hours. While an ice cream machine creates the creamiest texture, you can still make delicious homemade ice cream by hand.

Why is my ice cream icy?
Ice crystals usually form when the custard isn't chilled long enough or when excess moisture remains in the strawberries.

Can I use frozen strawberries?
Fresh strawberries provide the brightest, freshest flavor, but thawed frozen berries can work when fresh ones aren't in season.

Can I use vanilla bean instead of vanilla extract?
Absolutely. A vanilla bean gives the ice cream an even richer flavor.

Serving Ideas

To dress up the ice cream even more, add a few more items to create a luxury dessert.

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Whipped cream
  • Shortcake
  • Waffle cones
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Pound cake

Equipment

  • 1 Cuisinart ICE-100 1.5-Quart Ice Cream and Gelato Make

Ingredients

Cream Mix

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • dash of salt

Eggs

  • 4 egg yolks room temperature
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup Moni strawberry flavor

Strawberry Mix

  • 1 cup strawberries chopped bite
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoon jam

Instructions

  • Cut the strawberries into bite-size.
  • Add the cream and the milk to a pot and set to medium heat, do not boil.
  • Separate the egg yolks and add the yolks to the bowl, then add the sugar, salt vanilla, and mix.
  • Add ½ cup of the warm milk and slowly temper in the egg mix so as not to cook the yolks.
  • Pour the Monin strawberry mixture and egg mix into the warm milk and mix quickly so as not to cook the egg mix. Mix slowly until the mix thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  • Once the mix has thickened, pour into an airtight container and place in the freezer for about an hour until cold.
  • Pour the mixture into the ice cream maker and close the lid. Churn ice cream until it reaches a soft-serve consistency or the desired serving consistency that you like. Mine was about 35 minutes.
  • When the mix thickens, add the jam so it can swirl into ice cream and blend.
  • At this time, the ice cream is done and can be put into an airtight container, or fruit and candy can be added at this time.

Notes

  • As I add the Monin flavor, I will taste the mix to add more or less, depending on what is preferred by the taste buds.
  • When adding the jam, taste the ice cream first so you don't over-sweeten the ice cream.
  • Quality ingredients will make a world of difference when making ice cream so it's creamy and not too sweet.
